To all our friends near and far coming to our wonderful medieval city of Kilkenny. We hope you plan your stay with us for more than one night as there is so much to see here in Kilkenny! However if you just have one day in the city we have a few recommendations for you;
Within the city limits we have the ‘Medieval Mile’. We would recommend spending at least one day visiting the sights of the mile. Our top 3 favorites and must sees are Kilkenny Castle, St Canice’s Cathedral and the Smithwick Brewery, rated one of the top 10 places to visit when in Ireland!
Kilkenny Castle
This amazing castle (one of the best in Ireland in my unbiased opinion!!) is situated on the banks of the river with amazing gardens, wildlife and picturesque walking tracks. The brilliant guides bring you around the castle room by room offering insights on the architecture, furnishings, history and intriguing features beneath the ground floor. It even offers ghost tours for those who are not easily spooked!! Book a tour on their website.
St Canices Cathedral & Round Tower
Founded in the 6th century it is an essential part of the structural heritage of Kilkenny. You have to see the wonderful stained glass windows and experience the history attached to this jewel of gothic architecture and don’t forget to bring your camera, weather permitting, you can climb the round tower and take in the amazing views of Kilkenny city. Smithwick’s Brewery
Finish off your day enjoying the multi-sensory and interactive visitor experience that celebrates the brewing history of Kilkenny while enjoying the finest ale Kilkenny has to offer. The Smithwick’s Experience is a must see!
Most importantly return to us that evening and enjoy a succulent meal in Rueben’s Restaurant and relax in comfort ready for another full day of sight-seeing in our king koil beds for some much needed rest!
